Results After Testing the GE Profile Washer and Dryer Combo

We finally received and tested the Profile Combo Washer and Dryer at our Service and Repair Center. In this post you'll learn about all the features of this innovative new product.
Then you'll see the drying results of four different loads: whites, colors, and a kingsize comfort. Then we'll tell you a few problems whether you should or should not buy.
The first warning about combo washers and dryers. We normally recommend against combo washers and dryers, especially for families of heavy users, because they can't effectively remove the lipt over time. The lint will seize the machine for an expensive service.

Call the profile directly addresses the problem by installing a heavy twosided filter before the air exchanger in the front. You'll see lipt results later in the video. Heat pumps have been around in air conditioners since the 1990s and are common in dryers in Europe.

However, this dryer is larger than the small European types. GE is breaking new ground here. Also, heat pumps are more efficient but take longer to dry in the small units, so it's a concern in a much larger washer dryer. You'll see the time results for that cycle later in the post.
I don't want to spend a ton of time on features. We have other posts covering that topic, but here are the main benefits to wash your dryer, meaning you'll never have to transfer your clothes from a washer to a dryer. Pop your dirty clothes in and they'll finish cleaning dry.
You don't have to wash a load you forgot to place in your dryer either. The unit is ventless and 110 volt, meaning you can place this anywhere with an outlet and water source. Plus, you never have to worry about cleaning your dryer (duct) ever again.

And unlike regular ventless condenser dryers, heat pumps don't project heat back into your room either, although the profile did get warm in our tests. We'll becomparing the Profile, the Miele, Bosch Beko and the LG Washwer heat pump model in future videos. It's similar to the high-end GE with the Microband coating resist mode. That also features the 32- load automatic dispenser, so it disposes the right amount of detergent at the right time. You can also track time remaining on your phone and receive a push notification when the cycle is finished. Now let's see if it works and how the lint is trapped. So we did a four-step protest for four towels in six extra large men's shirts.

The machine showed three hours and 25 minutes, but finished in two hours and 51 minutes. For a kingsize sheet and blanket, it showed two hours and two minutes and finished a bit later at two hours and eight minutes.
For whites, including eight men's shirt(s), four towels, and eight men's large shirt(s), it showed two hours and 50 minutes and completed in two hours and 48. For a comforter, the cycle was completed in two hours and one minute, while it indicated two hours and 12 minutes, and it dried well except for the comforter, which is mostly dry like my home dryer.

But I was impressed with the drying. It works. The lint filter removed almost all of the lint way better than any combo in the market. I was impressed with this unit, but here are some problems and other considerations. At $28.99, you pay $9 to $1,200 more than GE's Combosized Set.
The Combo will do more and the heat pump will save you an operating cost–probably $1,500 per year depending on how you use it. The unit temperature in the back was registered at 110 degrees, so you want to be careful what you place on the top.
The lint filter is next to the air exchanger's heat sink, so you must be extremely careful how you clean it. The parts has undergone plenty of testing. GE works in our limited basic tests, so I will tell you what not to do first. Somewhere a designer will incorporate this into a custom laundry room.

I wouldn't do that, because if you do, you won't have any alternatives. If it needs replacement, for people with 110 Volt only, this unit is a godsend.
You finally can have a decent laundry and get your clothes done. You can also place this unit anywhere with water and power, so it's convenient for everyone else. You have to weigh in the many advantages of convenience, energy efficiency and better drying against the fear of an unknown issue.
Maybe for its introduction, maybe you buy it from a company with a good service department. Either way, the unit is one of the boldest, most innovative we've ever seen at Yale. It's well designed and engineered and actually does the job.
